Selangor Studies Super App Usage In SIP Implementation

Selangor: The Selangor government is looking into the use of a suitable super app to coordinate the implementation of the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system, said state Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Digital Infrastructure Committee, as the responsible party, is awaiting suggestions from the market to ensure the smooth implementation of smart parking throughout the state. Dr. Mohammad Fahmi emphasized that with the takeover of parking operations by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), more infrastructure, like closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, is expected to be installed in parking lots across Selangor to enhance enforcement.

He noted that currently, the collection level for parking areas in Selangor stands at only 50 percent. The remaining amount is uncollected because people tend not to pay in the absence of enforcement. Therefore, a more orderly and consistent enforcement method is needed.

Dr. Mohammad Fahmi shared these insights during the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award presentation ceremony. He mentioned that the state government has no plans to increase parking fee rates at this time, with a focus instead on strengthening enforcement through smart parking.

The estimated annual collection from parking lots across Selangor is about RM100 million. By implementing a more efficient collection system, this amount could potentially increase to RM200 million, which could then be reinvested to improve infrastructure and manage existing parking spaces.
