Selangor SUKMA Athletics Preparations On Track, Says POS President

Selangor: Preparations for athletics events at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which will be held in Selangor, are on the right track, with all technical and management aspects progressing smoothly, according to Selangor Athletics Association (POS) president Norhayati Karim. She said the competition venue at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as well as the technical teams involved in organising the event are now ready ahead of the Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Norhayati stated that Selangor athletes are currently undergoing training in preparation for SUKMA and will also compete in the Malaysian Open Championships, which will serve as a platform to assess their current performance levels. 'We will be sending a large contingent to the Malaysian Open. It is an important platform to reassess the athletes' level of readiness before SUKMA,' she said.

She added that a long list of athletes for the Games has already been identified, while the entry process is expected to be finalised in early July. Norhayati also mentioned that the SUKMA athletics events are expected to be held only during morning and afternoon sessions. 'At the initial stage, we planned to hold competitions during the day and at night, but based on several current considerations, we feel that the morning and afternoon format is more suitable,' she said.
