Selangor Sultan Receives RM64.97 Million in Business and Income Zakat Contributions

Shah alam: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today received RM64.97 million in business and income zakat (tithe) on behalf of the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) from 13 companies and one individual at a ceremony held at Istana Alam Shah here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), represented by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, handed over RM28.01 million in business zakat, making it the largest corporate contributor to the LZS this year. Other significant contributions came from Cyberview Sdn Bhd with RM5.43 million, followed by Tenaga Nasional Berhad at RM4.57 million, Kumpulan Gas Malaysia Berhad with RM3.5 million, and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad contributing RM3.42 million.

Additional contributors included PLUS Berhad donating RM2.6 million, Proton Group with RM3.19 million, DRB-HICOM Group at RM2.45 million, Northport (Malaysia) Berhad contributing RM1.64 million, Maybank Islamic Berhad with RM1.6 million, and Etiqa Takaful Group providing RM1.5 million. Both the National Farmers' Organisation (NAFAS) and Edgenta Infrastructure Services Sdn Bhd contributed RM1 million each in business zakat.

A notable individual contribution came from businessman and corporate figure Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, who paid income zakat amounting to RM5.07 million at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, LZS chief executive officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari highlighted the substantial impact of these contributions, benefiting more than 350,000 recipients in Selangor through various assistance and socio-economic development programs. He expressed deep appreciation for the commitment of both corporate companies and individuals who continue to prioritize LZS as their primary channel for zakat payments. These funds are aimed at strengthening the asnaf development agenda, thereby enhancing the well-being of the Selangor community.

The ceremony was also attended by Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, LZS chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail, and LZS deputy chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang.
