Selection Of Selangor MB Aids In Expediting Gaza Relief Efforts: PM

Selangor: The selection of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to spearhead the Malaysian Emergency Aid Mission to Gaza and the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 delegation is intended to streamline negotiations with the Egyptian government and accelerate the delivery of aid to Gaza, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized that appointing Amirudin as the government's representative was essential due to the complexity of the mission, which involves large-scale aid shipments and requires multiple negotiations with Egyptian authorities. Anwar explained that although he initially considered not sending a representative, the scale of the operation necessitated appointing someone in a government position to facilitate the process.

Anwar, speaking after the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2026, highlighted the critical nature of Malaysia's assistance, acknowledging the severe challenges currently faced by the people of Gaza. The Selangor Menteri Besar's Office confirmed in a statement that Amirudin would begin leading the aid mission and the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 delegation, on behalf of the government, starting tomorrow.

Organized by the Malaysian Islamic Organisations Consultative Council (MAPIM), the mission plans to deliver 374 tonnes of humanitarian aid across 30 containers to support the Palestinian people in Gaza.
