Senior Government Official and Company Director Remanded in Bribery Investigation

Kuala Lumpur:A senior official from a government agency and a company director have been remanded for seven days over allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes totaling approximately RM15,000. The bribes were reportedly intended as an inducement to secure supply work at the government agency.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Magistrate Aliaa Anwar issued the remand order for both individuals, effective from today until October 19, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court.

The suspects, aged in their 50s and 60s, were detained at 2 pm yesterday when they arrived to provide statements at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office. Preliminary investigations suggest that the alleged collusion took place between 2021 and 2023.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohammad Zakkuan Talib confirmed the remand when contacted. The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
