Kuala lumpur: The Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD) has established a new base for its Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit in Jinjang, aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing public confidence and safety. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the initiative was proposed by the Sentul police chief and deputy chief to overcome previous limitations, including a lack of dedicated parking space and reliance on shared facilities at the Jinjang Police Station.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a study was conducted on an abandoned evidence storage area, leading to a proposal to convert the site into a permanent base for MPV operations. Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa revealed these details during a press conference held after the launch of the new facility. The proposal received approval at the end of 2024, and renovation works commenced early this year, with the facility now fully operational.

The project's realization was facilitated by support from various contributors, including RM250,000 from Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng and RM15,000 from Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, alongside other donors. Rusdi highlighted that the Sentul IPD MPV unit recorded 1,127 police reports and 1,155 arrests last year, marking an increase from the previous year's 913 reports and 934 arrests.

The MPV unit has made significant progress in addressing crimes such as cable theft, drug trafficking, vehicle theft, and other criminal activities. Additionally, it has engaged actively with the community through outreach programmes. During the press conference, Lim expressed his aspiration for all front-line police personnel in Kuala Lumpur, especially those on patrol duty, to be equipped with body and dashboard cameras, emphasizing the importance of such measures in a densely populated city with a high concentration of commercial areas, which naturally elevates the risk of crime.
