Setia Alam: The police are advising the public not to speculate on the shooting incident that took place at a shopping mall in Setia Alam, Selangor, last night. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that any speculation regarding the case could cause unnecessary public alarm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Razarudin emphasized the importance of refraining from making assumptions that could lead to increased anxiety among the public. "We understand that this incident has raised concerns among the public. However, we urge everyone not to make speculations that could create anxiety," he mentioned when contacted today.
Razarudin also announced that security measures at shopping malls and other public venues across the nation would be intensified in response to the Setia Alam incident. He stated that auxiliary police officers and security personnel at these establishments have been instructed to stay alert to any suspicious activity.
Regarding the incident, Selangor police have identified the suspect, and various police units are currently on the ground tracking his whereabouts. The police have also informed authorities in neighboring states and at the borders to remain vigilant.
Media reports indicated that the shooting occurred at 10.50 pm, injuring a cleaner. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan disclosed that the suspect is a local male in his 30s with a fair complexion and has 11 prior records related to drug and criminal offenses.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
