Kuala lumpur: The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) has anticipated potential flooding in seven districts in Kelantan, targeting low-lying and high-risk areas, between December 14 and 17.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) issued this warning in response to a continuous heavy rain advisory from the Malaysian Meteorological Department today. The districts identified as being at risk include Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh.

PRABN's statement highlighted specific river basins that could lead to flooding. In Pasir Mas, Tumpat, and Tanah Merah, there is a threat from the Kelantan and Golok River basins. Meanwhile, Machang and Kota Bharu are at risk due to the Kelantan River basin. Pasir Puteh's vulnerability lies with the Semerak River basin, and Bachok faces risks from the Semerak, Kemasin, and Gali River basins.

JPS has committed to ongoing monitoring of the situation and will provide updates on flood warnings, acknowledging that the flooding might occur earlier or later than currently predicted. The agency has urged all disaster management bodies and residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and adhere to instructions from authorities.
