Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have detained seven individuals suspected of publishing posts on social media that contain elements of sedition, threats, insult, and defamation against national leaders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the arrests were carried out by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) between September 17 and October 5. The investigation focused on seven cases of video dissemination on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook. Datuk M. Kumar, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman, revealed that five TikTok accounts were involved: @saya_alif5, @k_a_m_i_l_2905, @HonaKia53, @japajafaruddinshop, and @zollpatv. These accounts reportedly uploaded content that insulted national leaders and contained offensive or humiliating statements.

The sixth case involved the TikTok account @tokgompo, which allegedly posted threatening content against the country's leaders. Meanwhile, the seventh case involved a Facebook user named Vincent Naidu, suspected of posting seditious and offensive statements against certain parties.

Kumar stated that the cases are being investigated under multiple legal provisions, including Sections 505(b), 504, and 506 of the Penal Code, Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The suspects have been remanded for one to three days to assist with the investigation.

It was further revealed that one suspect, in his 40s, has 19 prior drug-related offences, and another suspect, in his 60s, was previously investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. Kumar emphasized that the PDRM is committed to addressing any form of social media misuse that could incite sedition, threats, or public fear. He urged the public to act responsibly on social media to avoid legal repercussions and to maintain community harmony.
