Kuala terengganu: A total of seven new projects worth RM410.37 million have been approved for the state of Terengganu under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) 2026 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently. Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) director Ir Osman Abdullah said the approval was part of the federal government's ongoing efforts to strengthen irrigation and drainage infrastructure as well as flood mitigation measures in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, among the major projects approved were the Rusila Coastal Erosion Control Project in Marang, valued at RM140 million; the Sungai Buaya Local Flood Plan in Kuala Nerus, costing RM198.17 million; and the Anak Sungai Ibai Local Flood Plan in Kuala Terengganu, estimated at RM10 million. Additional projects include the River Conservation Project aimed at reducing flood risk, budgeted at RM25 million; the Line 28 Drainage System for Kampung Mak Chili Paya in Kemaman, at RM29.5 million; the Kemaman Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (PISMA), costing RM3.2 million; and the Dungun River Basin Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study, at RM4.5 million.
Ir Osman Abdullah expressed optimism about the impact of these projects, stating, "Alhamdulillah, this approval will have a major impact on reducing flood risk and the well-being of residents in the affected areas." He made these remarks during an interaction with reporters after the DID Phase 2 Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme Briefing with the Media.
Furthermore, Osman highlighted that in addition to the new projects, approval was also given to 18 existing extension projects. This brings the total number of projects under the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) 13MP to a valuation of RM2.21 billion.
