Seven Police Reports Filed in Connection with Sungai Johor Pollution Incident

Johor: Johor police have received seven reports so far in connection with the Sungai Johor pollution incident in Kota Tinggi.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that four additional reports were lodged yesterday, including one from a mine owner and three from affected villagers. "In total, seven police reports have been received since Oct 31, comprising one from Ranhill SAJ and two from residents earlier," he announced during a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters.

Ab Rahaman explained that police are assisting investigations being carried out by the Department of Environment (DoE) and the National Water Services Commission (SPAN). He also mentioned that the Johor water company, Ranhill SAJ, is expected to conduct its own investigation. "We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure no unforeseen incidents occur," he added.

The pollution incident has impacted a significant number of residents in the region. A total of 455,757 account holders, or nearly 1.8 million residents in Johor, were affected by the pollution that occurred last Friday. The contamination resulted from a breached sand-washing pond at a land-based sand mining site in Kota Tinggi, leading to the temporary suspension of operations at several water treatment plants.

As of yesterday, Ranhill SAJ reported that water supply recovery in Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru, Pontian, and Kulai had reached 93 percent.
