Lahad datu: Several major routes in Lahad Datu district will be closed or diverted to ensure the nomination of candidates for the 17th Sabah state election in Dewan Perdana on Saturday goes smoothly. Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the closures will be from 5 am to noon and involve both directions of Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau from the Kampung Terusan traffic lights to the Bandar Sri Perdana traffic lights.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the road from Jalan Kampung Betik will be closed from Jalan Bukit Perdana roundabout, with vehicles being diverted to Taman Sri Perdana. A diverted route will also be prepared for residents in Taman Aman, Taman Harapan, and their surrounding areas. ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead, use alternative routes to avoid congestion, and comply with the instructions of police on duty.
He also reminded all candidates to comply with the laws and regulations set and to avoid any action that can disrupt the nomination process. Candidates and representatives are urged to control the emotions of their supporters and not cause any provocations against supporters of other parties. Vehicle convoys for the purpose of showing party strength are also not allowed.
