Sg Langat Flood Mitigation Phase 2 Design to Be Finalised in September

Kuala lumpur: The design process for the Phase 2 Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation project is anticipated to reach completion in September, as stated by Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad. The project, slated under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for 2025, is currently progressing through the detailed design preparation phase. As of January, the project remained at the conceptual stage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a consultant was appointed on May 9, 2025, tasked with the design preparation and supervision of the project's implementation. The service period for this consultancy extends from May 19 until August 19, 2032. The land acquisition process is contingent upon the finalisation of the detailed design, as the precise alignment and flood mitigation components-such as retention ponds, river widening, and access routes-need to be accurately determined.

During an oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara, Abdul Rahman responded to Senator Tiew Way Keng's inquiry regarding the project's progress and the measures being implemented to prevent delays, especially in design preparation, land acquisition, and the tender process. Tiew also requested clarification on whether the government intends to tighten development approval requirements, focusing on drainage masterplans and the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP) in the Sungai Selangor basin, to mitigate the impact of new developments on flash flood incidents.

The Phase 2 Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation project, specifically Package 1 in Hulu Langat, has been allocated RM512 million.
