Shamsul Iskandar and Albert Tei Face Court for Remand Proceedings in Corruption Probe

Putrajaya: Former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and businessman Albert Tei Jiann Cheing, were escorted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to the Putrajaya Court Complex this morning for remand proceedings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, both men, handcuffed and dressed in MACC lockup attire, were presented before the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court as the MACC seeks a remand order to facilitate investigations into allegations of corruption. The investigation revolves around claims that Tei paid bribes to Shamsul Iskandar in a bid to recover funds purportedly distributed to Sabah assemblymen.

The allegations came to light following the detention of Shamsul Iskandar, who had voluntarily appeared at the MACC headquarters to provide a statement. Meanwhile, Albert Tei was apprehended after MACC officers conducted a raid at his residence in Puchong. Yesterday, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the detentions, including that of a woman, Sofia Rini Buyong, as part of the ongoing investigation.
