Kuala lumpur: Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin today announced his resignation as the Prime Minister's senior political secretary. Shamsul stated that his resignation letter was submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul mentioned in a Facebook post that he decided to step down due to attempts to attack him with matters that could potentially harm the image of the MADANI government. He expressed his intention to defend himself against these attacks. In his post, Shamsul also conveyed his gratitude to the prime minister for the trust placed in him during his tenure.
Earlier developments saw former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli calling on the prime minister to consider actions, including a potential investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in relation to a letter of support issued by one of Anwar's political secretaries. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim clarified that the letter in question was vague and did not serve as an instruction. He emphasized that the project approval process was not influenced by the letter, as the relevant authorities were well-informed of the standard procedures.
