Bandar Baru Klang: A fruit shop was severely damaged after carbide (calcium carbide) used to accelerate the ripening process of fruits suddenly exploded in an incident in Bandar Baru Klang, near here today. The explosion led to significant structural damage and affected several vehicles in the area.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar stated that they received a call at 5:21 pm. In response, eight officers and personnel from the North Klang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were deployed to the scene, equipped with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT).
Upon arrival, the team confirmed that an explosion had occurred at the back of the fruit shop, which spans an area of 7,000 square feet. The force of the explosion resulted in the collapse of the office wall structure, which measured 900 square feet, causing extensive damage to the property.
Ahmad Mukhlis also noted that the explosion impacted six cars parked nearby, resulting in considerable damage to the vehicles. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, providing some relief amidst the destruction caused by the explosion.
