Sijangkang Storm: School Repair Works To Be Completed In Three Months – Amirudin

Sijangkang: Repair works at four schools in Sijangkang damaged by the storm that hit Telok Panglima Garang in Kuala Langat on Oct 15 are expected to be completed within three months, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He stated that the Education Ministry (MOE) has allocated RM10.1 million for the repairs at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sijangkang Jaya, which serve more than 6,000 students.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the damage primarily involved roof structures and main trusses. Repair works at SMK Sijangkang Jaya are 90 percent complete, and the building has been declared safe. Over 400 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates have returned to the school to prepare for their exams starting Nov 2. Classes at the remaining three schools will continue online until repairs are finalized.

Amirudin mentioned that he inspected the repair works with MOE representatives and received a briefing from Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) director Shukri Ishak. Cleaning works at the affected schools were also conducted at a cost of nearly RM1.9 million.

The state government, through JKR, the Kuala Langat District and Land Office, and the State Disaster Management Unit, will closely monitor the repair progress, with the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) ready to consider additional funding if needed. The state government aims to complete all restoration works as scheduled to ensure students can resume learning in a safe and comfortable environment.

Last Wednesday, the storm, described as one of the worst to hit Selangor in the past four years, caused damage to four schools, a community hall, and around 40 houses.
