Kuala lumpur: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is set to enhance benefits under the Employment Insurance System (SIP), allowing contributors to receive up to RM25,000 in total support and protection per person starting October 1. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan revealed these improvements, which include an increase in the Early Re-employment Allowance (EBSA) rate from 25 percent to 50 percent of the remaining Job Search Allowance.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the improvements also encompass a one-off Mobility Assistance Allowance (EBN) of RM1,000 for contributors who secure new employment more than 100 kilometers from their residence, alongside an increase in the daily training allowance from RM10 to RM30. The maximum training fee has been raised from RM4,000 to RM7,000, aiding contributors in skill enhancement to match current labor market demands. Ramanan emphasized the importance of aligning PERKESO's services with contributors' needs through job matching, career advisory services, and retraining during a press conference at the Festival Mega iLINDUNGu: KESUMA Bersama Rakyat programme at Strand Mall, Kota Damansara.
The festival also marked a step forward in social security coverage for gig workers. Platform providers contributed RM1.514 million to cover 500 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing delivery riders, with RM1 million from Foodpanda, RM500,000 from Grab, and RM14,412.40 from Halo. Ramanan highlighted the significant role of social protection for gig workers and urged the public not to be misled by misinformation on social media regarding the Lindung 24 Jam scheme, for which 87 percent of workers have registered.
During the event, RM48,000 was presented under the LINDUNG Kasih Suri Rumah Scheme to support social security contributions for 400 housewives in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency. The event, attended by PERKESO Board chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and PERKESO Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, spanned three days from September 18, offering 2,000 job opportunities through the MYFutureJobs Career Carnival.
