Selangor: Bidding for the 'SIS' special vehicle registration number series, short for Sultan Idris Shah, in honour of Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will be open to the public from Aug 15 to Aug 19.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Selangor Royal Office announced through a Facebook statement that the auction is organized in celebration of the Sultan's upcoming 80th birthday in December, as well as marking his Silver Jubilee in 2026. The Transport Ministry, via the Road Transport Department (JPJ), will oversee the online bidding through the JPJeBid system, with the results expected to be released on Aug 20.
The bidding process will adhere to existing terms and minimum prices set by JPJ, which will manage the auction without any third-party involvement. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a royal foundation under the Sultan's patronage, aimed at supporting initiatives such as scholarships and emergency aid.
The foundation will be overseen by Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim, a Selangor Royal Council member and former Bank Negara governor, to ensure transparent governance. Additionally, JPJ issued a statement reminding bidders that any acquired registration number must be assigned to a vehicle within 12 months of the official results letter being issued.
