Multimedia university: Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor claimed victory in the Malay Language category of the 51st Prime Minister's Cup Debate Competition (PPM) 2026, while Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah Putrajaya took the top spot in the English Language category. Both schools earned RM51,000, a trophy, and a certificate for their achievements.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah was the runner-up in the Malay Language category, while Sekolah Menengah Sains Miri secured second place in the English Language category. Both runner-up schools received RM20,000 and a certificate. The finals of the prestigious debate competition were held at Multimedia University and attended by Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, who presented the awards.

In her speech, Fadhlina emphasized that reaching the finals was a significant accomplishment for the students, regardless of the outcome. She highlighted the competition's role in providing students the chance to develop courage, debating skills, and decision-making abilities. Fadhlina also noted the return of school teams that had not reached the finals in years, with some making a comeback after more than a decade.

Five schools were awarded RM5,000 each under the MADANI Debate Academy to enhance debating talent. These schools include Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan Kajang, Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar, Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Sabak Bernam, and Sekolah Menengah Sains Sabah. The MADANI Debate Academy aims to strengthen the debating culture in fully residential schools.

Fadhlina congratulated the students, guiding teachers, and supportive parents, while expressing hope to see more new talents and schools advancing in the future. This year's competition also introduced a new cup donated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, symbolizing the continuity of the debating tradition since its inception in 1974.

The Prime Minister's Cup Debate Competition was first held in 1974 at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), Perak, with the goal of fulfilling the vision of the second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, to produce dynamic and intelligent leaders, particularly from fully residential schools.
