Melaka: The Melaka state government is moving forward with plans to enhance inclusive education by constructing an additional building for the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Katil. This initiative aims to address the rising number of students with special needs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the RM5.6 million project is set for completion in August 2027. The expansion is necessary to provide a safe, comfortable, and conducive learning environment for students with special education needs, addressing the issue of overcrowded classrooms that currently exceed capacity and challenge the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
The new facility is planned to accommodate over 90 students, enhancing their development, potential, and self-confidence. This aligns with the state government's commitment to ensuring that no child in Melaka is overlooked or marginalised in the education system. The Chief Minister made these remarks during the project's groundbreaking ceremony, which was part of the Bukit Katil 'Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat' (WRUR) programme at the school.
The event was attended by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, who also serves as the Bukit Katil assemblyman, and Melaka Public Works Department director Mohamad Salzeli Moktar. The project will feature six classrooms, an intervention room, and a workshop, providing essential facilities for the students.
