Johor bahru: The Immigration Department has detained a South Korean national at his rented premises in Horizon Hills on suspicion of using a fake employment pass. The arrest was made yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus revealed that the 49-year-old man is also believed to be wanted in South Korea for his involvement in fraud cases, causing losses of approximately 3.5 billion won (around RM9.4 million). During the inspection, the suspect was found at home with his 45-year-old Chinese wife and their two sons. A woman was also discovered performing cleaning tasks within the property.
The Immigration Department's investigation revealed that the suspect could not provide valid identification documents. Further inspection determined that both the suspect and the 55-year-old Filipina cleaner had overstayed their visas. The South Korean man had been in Malaysia for four months, while the cleaner had overstayed for a year.
"The suspect and the worker have been remanded for 14 days from yesterday on suspicion of committing offences under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," Mohd Rusdi stated. Meanwhile, their two sons, who are also South Korean nationals aged 12 and 20, are in Malaysia on social visit and student passes.
