Nanga medamit: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project will bring more convenience and improved mobility to residents in northern Sarawak. He highlighted the federal government's awareness of the transportation challenges in these areas, which are exacerbated by limited road access and complex geographical conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar noted that his recent helicopter journey from Miri to Limbang, which required passing through Brunei, underscored the difficulties faced by residents. He described the challenging landscape visible from the air, emphasizing the need for substantial funding due to the high project costs associated with the region's hilly terrain and extensive land area.

The official launch of SSLR Phase 2 took place in Nanga Medamit, with notable attendees including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The project, estimated to cost RM7.6 billion, is slated for completion in 2029. It covers a 335-kilometre stretch, connecting Mulu, Nanga Medamit (Limbang), Long Luping (Lawas), and Ba'kelalan.

The second phase involves the construction of roads, bridges, viaducts, street lighting, and drainage systems, aiming to provide modern infrastructure to previously underserved areas. SSLR Phase 2 is a continuation of the first phase, which extends from Lawas to Long Luping and began in 2021, currently achieving 57.6 percent completion.

Overall, the SSLR project is viewed as transformative for interconnectivity in the Borneo states, reducing reliance on routes through Brunei and enhancing socio-economic opportunities in rural Sarawak.
