Melaka: The proposal to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vapes in Melaka is set to be tabled and discussed in more detail at the State Executive Council (MMKN),

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, emphasized that this move underscores Melaka's commitment to public health, as the state Health Department has recently recorded numerous cases of lung-related diseases linked to vape use.

Ngwe highlighted the increasing health issues associated with vapes, prompting the need to address the matter at the MMKN meeting to reach a decision on vape sales. His remarks were made during an event marking Melaka's 2025 World Tuberculosis Day and the Wellness On Wheel Roadshow, part of the People's Representative Programme for the Sungai Udang constituency.

In attendance were the state's senior executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management, Datuk Rais Yasin, Sungai Udang seat coordinator, and Melaka Health Department director Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa. Rais stated that his committee, along with local authorities, would adhere to the MMKN's decision regarding vape sales.

Rais acknowledged the high number of applications for vape sale permits in Melaka but expressed concern about traders exploiting electronic device sales licenses. He indicated that a ban would facilitate enforcement efforts. Rais also mentioned the need for federal assistance to standardize regulations or implement a nationwide vape ban, while considering the perspectives of e-cigarette and vape entrepreneurs to ensure a balanced approach prioritizing public safety and health.
