Selangor: The Selangor government has requested the Selangor FC team management to present a full report on the commotion that occurred during their Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2) football match against Persib Bandung at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium on Thursday (Nov 6).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi stated that the government views the situation seriously and has sought a detailed report to investigate the cause and enhance match security and management. "We have requested Selangor FC to provide a report regarding the incident. We want to have a better understanding of the situation to ensure that fan safety and event management are maintained at the highest level," he said.
He made these remarks at a media conference after officiating the launch of the engagement session for the 2026 Selangor Economic Census (BE2026) with stakeholders, which was also attended by Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin. In the Nov 6 match, the Red Giants lost 3-2 to Persib Bandung and were eliminated from ACL2. The outcome resulted in disappointment among die-hard Selangor fans, leading to a commotion after the match, with some fans invading the pitch and others gathering outside the stadium's main entrance, demanding accountability from the club's top management.
Mohd Najwan further mentioned that the state government has also requested the Selangor FC management to submit a report on the team's poor performance and re-evaluate the team's strategy following the uproar among supporters over recent disappointing displays. "We understand the concerns of the supporters and have asked the team management to submit a detailed report on the team's performance and measures to improve their fortunes," he stated, adding that no specific time frame has been set for the report's submission.
He noted that although Selangor FC now operates as a corporate entity and the state government is not directly involved in the club's internal affairs, his committee still plays a role, including providing financial support. "Previously, Selangor FC used to periodically submit performance reports to the state government. It's just that I have now asked the chief executive officer (Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon) to submit a report on what has caused the team's form to dip. This report is not aimed at blaming any party. The state government just wants to ensure that any improvements carried out are done in a planned manner for the benefit of the team and the fans," he concluded.
