Taiping: A temporary relief centre has been opened to shelter 10 families following a storm and uprooted trees in Taman Damai, Simpang, Taiping this afternoon. Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat announced that the centre, located at Taman Kaya multipurpose hall, began operations at 6:30 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, more than 10 families were unable to return home as clean-up work could not be carried out today. In a statement, Mohd Nasrul Menhat emphasized the urgent need for temporary shelter due to the widespread damage caused by the storm.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Gantang Parliamentary Service Centre reported that 92 people from 10 families were accommodated at the temporary relief centre as of 8 pm. The storm wreaked havoc across several areas, including Taman Kaya, Kg Sentosa, Batu 2½, Kg Pak Darus, Taman Ria, Taman Damai, Taman Pengkalan Indah, Pengkalan Aur, Simpang Perdana People's Housing Project, and Jalan Simpang.
The severe weather event led to significant damage, impacting the roofs of homes and businesses, Ramadan bazaar tents, a mosque walkway, cemetery fences, and the roof of Taman Pengkalan Indah surau. Additionally, several vehicles were reported damaged due to the storm's intensity.
