Sulawesi: A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck the Minahassa Peninsula in Sulawesi at 4.50 am today, the Meteorological Department reported. The quake originated at a depth of 131 km and was located approximately 120 km west of Gorontalo, Indonesia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tremors from the earthquake were felt in the Malaysian towns of Tawau and Lahad Datu in Sabah. Despite the shaking, the department clarified that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
