Samarahan: The Sarawak Teachers' Union (STU) will receive a plot of land in Samarahan from the state government to develop a facility intended for various activities, including a hostel, announced Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Samarahan was chosen due to its concentration of higher learning institutions, proximity to Kuching, and accessibility from multiple routes, making it an ideal location for the new development.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Premier Abang Johari highlighted the strategic selection of a site near the new airport in Tanjung Embang, aiming to enhance convenience for future users. Speaking at the union's 60th Diamond Jubilee dinner, he expressed his belief that this initiative represents the future of STU. The planned facility will not only serve as a hostel but also host courses, seminars, and gatherings, supporting the state's agenda for education and infrastructure development.
Furthermore, Abang Johari revealed plans for the Sarawak government to construct common science laboratories across the state. These facilities aim to ensure effective science education for all students, particularly in schools lacking existing laboratories. He emphasized the importance of practical lessons in subjects such as chemistry, physics, and biology, stating that the state government will fully fund the construction of these labs. The laboratories will be strategically located in each district and shared by nearby schools that do not have their own science facilities.
