STUDENT ACHIEVES 6A’S IN SPM DESPITE ADVERSITY, DREAMS OF BECOMING TEACHER

KOTA BHARU, In pursuit of her dream to become a teacher, a determined student persevered through her schooling despite being paralysed from head to toe due to a stroke five years ago, until she achieved 6A’s in the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, the results of which were announced today.

Siti Nur Amalin Kamal, 18, a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Naim Lilbanat, recounted being suddenly stricken by stroke in early 2019, leading to a nearly three-month hospitalisation at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Kubang Kerian, before returning to school after a year of battling the illness.

Initially facing difficulties commuting to school due to her weakened state and requiring assistance from those around her, as well as using a cane for support, she expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her mother, Hasmawati Mohamad, 50, and father, Kamal Samsul, 57, as well as her teachers and friends, which kept her motivated to attend school despite moments of despair.

“Eve
ry day, my mother or father would accompany me to class, carrying my school belongings, including books, as I could only manage to transport myself,” she shared during an interview at her home in Taman Sri Aman, Kubang Kerian, today.

Continuing her story, Siti Nur Amalin, who aspires to further her studies at a Teachers Training Insitute (IPG), expressed gratitude as her condition has been showing signs of improvement over time, despite not being fully healed.

She shared that in preparation for last year’s SPM, she focused on self-study, practising exercises and paying attention in class.

“Alhamdulillah, my condition has improved, although the entire right side of my body remains weak and requires a cane. Thankfully, my friends often lend a hand whenever I need to go to the lab or elsewhere,” she said.
