Student Wields Utility Knife in Schoolyard Dispute Following Ice-throwing Incident

Alor gajah: A secondary school student allegedly chased two schoolmates with a retractable utility knife after an altercation involving ice-throwing at a local secondary school. The incident reportedly unfolded during a school programme held in the open hall.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar stated that the incident occurred at approximately 2.50 pm yesterday. Preliminary investigations revealed that two male students, aged 13 and 14, had allegedly thrown ice at the suspect, a Form One student, multiple times, leading to the escalation.

The suspect, in a fit of rage, reportedly retrieved a utility knife from his pencil case and pursued one of the students for about 50 metres towards the school's surau. The chase was captured on the school's CCTV cameras, Supt Ahmad confirmed.

He further mentioned that two other male students, present with the victims, fled the scene fearing they might also be targeted. A teacher intervened, persuading the suspect to relinquish the knife, and the situation was diffused without any injuries. The two victims returned to the hall as calm was restored.

The suspect's family was summoned to the school and subsequently took him home. Investigations indicated that all students involved in the incident had previous disciplinary records from earlier this year. Additionally, the suspect has been under treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, with his last recorded session on June 3. The school was reportedly aware of his mental health condition.

A teacher filed a police report regarding the incident last night. The case is currently under investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which pertains to criminal intimidation.
