Shah alam: The successful hosting of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor will have a positive impact on the overall development of sports in Malaysia, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He stated that SUKMA remains the biggest national sporting event organised in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin emphasized the importance of SUKMA for not just personal, community, or state achievements but for the country's image as well. He expressed confidence that the success of hosting the games will have a positive impact on the development of the sports industry across Malaysia. These remarks were made during the launch of the logo, mascot, and theme for SUKMA and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 at Dewan Raja Muda Musa.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Dr K. Nagulendran and Olympic Council of Malaysia President Tan Sri Dr Mohamad Norza Zakaria. Also present were Selangor Exco for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, Chairman of the 22nd Selangor SUKMA 2026 Organising Committee, and Selangor Deputy State Secretary Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi, who serves as the CEO of the SUKMA 2026 Secretariat.
During the launch, a pair of White Eagles were introduced as the official mascots of SUKMA Selangor. The mascots symbolize strength and the spirit of youth, with the theme 'Rentak Kita, Aksi Kita' (Our Rhythm, Our Action) chosen for the games. The mascots, designed to represent unity, inclusivity, and athlete synergy, feature Selangor's iconic colours of red, yellow, and white.
Mohd Najwan, in his speech, outlined the commitment to making the 22nd edition of the games more magnificent in terms of organisation and events. He highlighted Selangor's approach of including all events from the previous games in Sarawak, ensuring equal opportunities for all states, rather than selecting events for host advantage.
He further stated that the decision to contest all sports from Sarawak aims to return to the original goal of SUKMA: to produce and develop new talent. "We provide a level playing field, regardless of which state the athlete comes from, because what is important in the end is for them to become athletes who carry the country's name in competitions at a higher level," he concluded.
