SUKMA 2026: Johor Wins First Gold Medal In Men’s Football

Petaling jaya: Johor won their first ever gold medal in men's football after they beat Selangor 4-2 in the penalty shootout after they drew 1-1 in the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) final at Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium here tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor's Muhammad Daniesh Amirruddin, Arayyan Hakeem Norizam, Izzuddin Arif Nazarudin, and Muhammad Naim Zainuddin all managed to score their penalties while Selangor's Muhammad Danial Hqzeiry Mohd Amin and Ahmad Zamil Zaqwan Samsulkama successfully converted their attempts. Johor goalkeeper Muhammad Danial Idraqi Mohd Asmir was pivotal in the win, saving penalty attempts by Hafifi Muhtadee Billah Zailani and Muhammad Zarul Aidid Mokhtar to secure the victory.

In the final match, Johor took the lead when Muhammad Daniesh scored in the 20th minute. Selangor equalised ten minutes later through a penalty by Muhammad Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon, who was fouled by Ahmad Lutfil Hadi Sahabudin just two minutes before the penalty was awarded.

This victory marks Johor's first triumph in SUKMA history. Meanwhile, Perak secured the bronze medal after defeating Pahang 4-0 in the third place decider held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Stadium, Shah Alam.
