Kuala lumpur: The Selangor government is ready to take further action over the staging of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) if the Air Pollution Index (API) reaches unhealthy levels, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said. He mentioned that based on the latest monitoring by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the Selangor Health Department, the Johan Setia area in Klang has recorded a trend of unhealthy air quality due to the area's location and possible localised fire incidents over the past several days.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government will monitor the situation and should the API reach unhealthy levels, measures will be taken as advised by MetMalaysia and the state Health Department. This was stated during a press conference after the presentation of the 2026 Selangor State Research and Development Grant (SELidik) at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building.

He added that any preventive measures and adjustments to the competition schedule would only be officially determined if weather conditions deteriorated to a concerning level. 'If the API reaches unhealthy levels, we will await the decision and advice from the MOH,' he said.

Eight areas in Sarawak and one in Selangor recorded unhealthy API readings as of 6 pm yesterday, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS). In Peninsular Malaysia, Johan Setia, Selangor, was the only area recording an unhealthy reading, with an API of 153.
