SUKMA 2026 Sports Infrastructure Upgrade On Track for March Completion: Amirudin

Kuala lumpur: Work to upgrade several sports infrastructure for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which Selangor will host, is proceeding smoothly and slated for full completion next March. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the sports infrastructure upgrading process, including stadiums, local authority halls, and the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre (PADE), had begun and is set to be completed according to schedule.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, although the PADE, which is the pride of Selangor folks, is undergoing a comprehensive upgrading process, the welfare of tenants there is being taken care of through payment exemption and the provision of alternative facilities throughout the work period. Amirudin emphasized that the biennial Games serve as a platform not only for competition but also as a catalyst for the state's economic development, impacting sectors such as tourism, hospitality, logistics, and services.

Amirudin highlighted that the influx of visitors attending the Games will stimulate the local economy, benefiting everyone from hawkers to major industries. He expressed confidence that with modern infrastructure, thorough preparation, and public support, the Selangor contingent will be well-positioned to reclaim its status as the overall champion. He added that these efforts aim to ensure success at SUKMA 2026, develop future athletes, bolster the state's economy, and enhance the prestige of national sports.

The opening ceremony of SUKMA 2026, scheduled from August 15 to 24, and Para SUKMA from September 5 to 14, will take place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Amirudin urged collective efforts to make SUKMA 2026 a source of pride for Selangor and all Malaysians.
