Kuala lumpur: The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, departed for home after concluding his three-day state visit to Malaysia. The visit commenced on Monday, and the Sultan's special aircraft left the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base at 3.05 pm, with a delegation including Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah, Cabinet ministers, and senior government officials.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's visit was at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. During the visit, the Sultan attended a state welcome ceremony at Istana Negara and had an audience with Sultan Ibrahim. Discussions during the audience focused on the longstanding bilateral ties between Malaysia and Brunei.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah engaged in talks as part of the 26th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders' Consultation at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya. A luncheon was hosted by the Prime Minister in honor of the Sultan and his delegation at the Prime Minister's official residence at 11.25 am.
In 2024, Brunei was Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner within ASEAN, with total trade valued at RM7.53 billion (USD1.77 billion). From January to June 2025, trade between Malaysia and Brunei reached USD690 million (RM3.02 billion), including exports of USD500 million (RM2.18 billion) and imports of USD190 million (RM840 million).
