Kuala lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, is set to embark on a state visit to Russia from August 5 to 10, 2025, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. This visit marks a significant milestone as Sultan Ibrahim becomes the first Malaysian Head of State to visit Russia since diplomatic ties were established in 1967.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Istana Negara stated that the visit underscores the pivotal role of the Malaysian monarchy in enhancing the nation's diplomatic efforts. The visit aims to not only bolster existing bilateral relations but also to forge new opportunities for collaboration in trade, higher education, technology, innovation, and cultural exchanges.
As the ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia is poised to play a key role in advancing strategic partnerships, particularly with Russia as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1996. During his time in Moscow, Sultan Ibrahim will receive a state welcome ceremony at the Kremlin, followed by an official meeting with President Putin. A state banquet hosted by the Russian President is also on the itinerary.
