Sultan of Selangor Renames Dataran Morib to Honour Former Menteri Besar

Pantai Morib:The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, officiated the renaming of Dataran Morib to Dataran Dato' Seri Harun Idris at Pantai Morib. The ceremony was attended by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who accompanied the Sultan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the renaming ceremony paid tribute to the late Datuk Seri Harun Idris, the eighth Selangor Menteri Besar, in recognition of his contributions to the state. Harun Idris also served as the Morib state assemblyman.

The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) announced that the square was reopened to the public following the completion of the RM60.50 million Morib Beach Conservation Project on July 1. The federal government project was managed by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) in conjunction with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS).

MPKL stated that the conservation project was initiated after a high-tide incident on September 18, 2020, which led to the collapse of a retaining wall and damage to the coastal area. The project included beach nourishment along a 750-metre stretch, construction of a 750-metre seawall, two offshore breakwaters, and two beacon lights.

Additionally, the Selangor government has allocated RM55 million under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) for three coastal conservation projects in Kuala Langat. This includes RM15 million for erosion-control structures and beach nourishment at Pantai Kampung Endah (Istana Bahagia), RM20 million for similar efforts and bund upgrades at Pantai Batu Laut, and another RM20 million for erosion-control and beach nourishment at Pantai Tumbuk.

MPKL noted that the square has also seen upgrades to its facilities and infrastructure, aiming to attract more domestic and international tourists.
