Kuala terengganu: The Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah, today expressed her condolences to the family of Syakirah Hanan Mazli, 25, who was killed in a road accident at the JPJ traffic light intersection, Jalan Kemajuan, near here yesterday afternoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Her Royal Highness's condolences were relayed through the vice-chancellor of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Prof Datuk Dr Fadzli Adam. Fadzli stated that Sultanah Nur Zahirah, who is also the Chancellor of UniSZA, expressed her sorrow over the passing of the university's second-semester postgraduate diploma in education student.
Fadzli conveyed, 'I respectfully convey Her Royal Highness Sultanah Nur Zahirah's condolences and sense of sadness to the family of the late Syakirah Hanan Mazli, who passed away on Jan 5, 2026.' He added that Her Royal Highness hopes that the family will remain patient and strong during this difficult time, and prays that Allah SWT will place Syakirah Hanan's soul among the people of Jannah.
In the incident at 1.55 pm yesterday, Syakirah Hanan was driving a Perodua Viva from UniSZA towards Bukit Kecil and was making a right turn as the traffic light turned green when her vehicle was struck by a speeding Honda Jazz travelling from the opposite direction. She was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe injuries.
