Kuala lumpur: The 2026 DAP Party Conference on Sunday will decide whether the party will remain in or withdraw from the Federal Government for the remainder of the current parliamentary term. DAP National Organising Secretary Khoo Poay Tiong stated that the motion on the matter would be tabled by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke at the conference held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 4,264 delegates from 1,704 eligible branches will decide on the motion through a ballot. Delegates will debate the motion before voting takes place, and each delegate will be given a ballot paper to make their decision, ensuring a transparent process. Voting is expected to commence after the debate and is anticipated to take about two hours.

Khoo emphasized the importance of the decision, urging all eligible delegates to attend the conference as it will determine DAP's future direction. He clarified that the gathering on August 16 is the party's annual conference, not an extraordinary general meeting or special conference, as previously described.

The party conference must be conducted no later than 18 months after a National Congress, with the last congress held in March 2025. This year's conference is significant as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the DAP's establishment. PICC was chosen as the venue after evaluating about eight options, considering capacity and cost to accommodate more than 4,000 delegates.
