Sungai Pinang Flood Mitigation Project Completion Set for Q3 2027

Penang: The Sungai Pinang flood mitigation project is anticipated to reach full completion by the third quarter of 2027. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the project is currently on schedule, with 24 percent of the work already finalized.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow inspected the construction site today, focusing on the development of the piano weir and monsoon drain structures at Kampung Jawa. These structures are integral to the project's success. They extend from the Jalan Jelutong bridge to the bridge's end at Jalan Perak.

Chow noted that, upon completion, these structures will play a crucial role in preventing flooding and river overflow in downstream areas. Additionally, they are designed to enhance water quality by channeling drain water directly downstream and to mitigate the effects of high tides.
