Kuala lumpur: Sunway Bhd is set to implement a joint procurement strategy in the construction sector as part of its short-term goals within nine months following its acquisition of IJM Corp Bhd. The move is aimed at optimizing resources and exploring collaboration opportunities between the two entities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sunway President Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib emphasized that IJM Corp will continue its regular operations during this period while potential synergies are evaluated. "We must deliver the contracts they have, and we must also deliver ours, but we can start to look at things like joint procurement because we can buy things together," Taib stated during an appearance on Bernama TV's 'The Nation' program. He highlighted IJM's expertise in civil construction, suggesting joint bids for projects like the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) or the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) could be on the horizon, alongside Sunway's initiatives such as data centers.
Taib also discussed the long-term vision of merging the two companies to maintain integration. He mentioned forming an integration team under his leadership to oversee the process, ensuring job security for the combined workforce of approximately 23,600 employees. Additionally, he noted a strategic approach to property development, emphasizing a long-term view on land acquisition and development.
Recently, Sunway received overwhelming support from its shareholders, with 99.27 percent voting in favor of moving forward with the takeover bid. The offer stands at RM3.15 per share and is open for acceptance until April 6, providing a mix of cash and Sunway shares. Despite the rejection from major shareholders like Permodalan Nasional Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund, Sunway remains committed to its strategic vision.
