Sunway lagoon: Sunway Lagoon today officially launched its refreshed Scream Park experience, offering immersive entertainment that has become a growing global trend. The revamped attraction introduced a new generation of features that blends Malaysian folklore, cinematic entertainment, and globally recognised storytelling into an integrated guest journey.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sudden Impact! Entertainment chairman and global creative director Lynton V. Harris said the attraction comprised three distinct experiences, namely Hantu Hunters, Horrorwood Studios, and Oz, with each offering a different storytelling journey to cater to a wide audience. Harris explained that Scream Park has been present for 18 years, and it was time to refresh it into something new, unlike the Nights of Fright, which is seasonal and intentionally scarier. The aim is for guests to jump, laugh, and enjoy the adventure together.
Harris emphasized the importance of incorporating regional stories to ensure that the attraction retains a local identity while introducing international visitors to cultural narratives. Sunway Lagoon attracts international tourists, and the new features aim to showcase local and regional stories while remaining entertaining and accessible. The Hantu Hunters experience allows audiences to explore well-known folklore and ghost stories through immersive storytelling.
Harris noted that the refresh was part of the park's continuous efforts to introduce new experiences in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). He mentioned that he spent nearly a year researching the story, given its enduring appeal across generations, making it a suitable headline attraction. The Wizard of OZ, with its evolution from book to film and its newer adaptations, serves as the perfect anchor attraction for this new chapter of Scream Park.
Meanwhile, Sunway Theme Parks general manager of marketing business Michelle Soong commented that the concept was carefully designed to ensure accessibility across different age groups, including children and adults, while maintaining an engaging, immersive experience. The attraction's uniqueness lies in its interactivity and the level of detail invested in its interior design.
Visitors are taken through iconic environments, including a Kansas farmhouse, a cyclone experience, Munchkinland, and Emerald City, among others, through a darker reinterpretation inspired by L. Frank Baum's original literary work before arriving safely at Glinda's Castle. Scream Park operates daily from 10 am to 6 pm, except Tuesdays, with exceptions during school and public holidays.
