Kuala lumpur: Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) has been awarded the Technology and Innovation Excellence Award at the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Business Excellence Awards 2025, acknowledging its leadership in smart healthcare initiatives.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the award is given to organisations that have implemented new solutions using digital, innovative, or disruptive technologies, particularly over the past three years. The hospital has been recognised for its ongoing efforts to advance digital healthcare in Malaysia by enhancing both clinical and operational efficiency.

Dr. Seow Vei Ken, the Chief Executive Officer of SMC, stated that the hospital is committed to integrating cutting-edge technologies to improve patient care and operational processes, thereby elevating the working environment for its clinical staff. This accolade, he noted, motivates SMC to continue leading in smart healthcare advancements.

SMC has been proactive in adopting technologies such as robotics, precision medicine, and automation. The hospital has integrated digitalisation and artificial intelligence into its operations, including the use of Malaysia's first automated microbiology laboratory specimen processing system, cloud-based hospital information systems, and outpatient pharmacy automation.

The hospital has introduced advanced robotic technologies for various clinical services, including systems like the Mako SmartRobotics, ROSA® Knee System, and VELYSS Robotic Assisted Solution for joint replacements. Additionally, it has implemented Southeast Asia's first AiBLES Spine Surgical Systems and Malaysia's first da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System for minimally invasive procedures.

SMC's recognition is further enhanced by its ranking in Newsweek's World's Best Smart Hospitals 2026, where it is listed among the top 350 hospitals globally and as the leading hospital in Malaysia.

As of this year, SMC hosts over 300 medical consultants and 80 medical specialities, supported by 28 Centres of Excellence. It is also the first hospital in Malaysia to achieve three significant accreditations, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Gold Seal of Approval from the USA.
