Kuala Lumpur: The supply of cattle for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations in June is expected to be adequate, according to Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. He expressed optimism that the prices would remain stable, referencing the low prices observed during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu assured that the cattle allocated for sacrificial purposes would be sufficient. "For cattle allocated for sacrifice, insya-Allah, the supply will be sufficient. We hope the price won't shoot up during the festivities," he stated while addressing reporters after his ministry's monthly gathering and Aidilfitri event at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).
Mohamad further addressed concerns regarding the spread of Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) in Kuala Terengganu district, which had resulted in the deaths of 25 cows in Kampung Dusun Tembakau, Manir. He confirmed that the situation was under control and was being closely monitored.
The minister also commented on the high price of coconut milk, attributing the increase to strong demand during Aidilfitri. He assured that the government is taking measures to stabilize the price by May, including importing more coconut milk from Indonesia, as well as from Sabah and Sarawak.
