Kuala Lumpur: SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) is set to deploy nearly 3,000 cleaning workers during the first and second days of the Deepavali celebrations to ensure efficient solid waste collection and public cleaning operations throughout the festive period.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the company's corporate general manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, announced that the operation will also involve 236 compactor lorries and 117 open-tipper lorries. These resources will be deployed in their respective service areas to ensure thorough and efficient cleaning. Mohd Norlisam highlighted that festive celebrations often lead to a significant increase in solid waste, necessitating a more systematic operational strategy with additional manpower and machinery.
In preparation for the festival, SWM Environment has adjusted the collection schedule in several areas, bringing it forward by one day. This schedule adjustment will involve 24 locations in Nilai and 18 in Port Dickson for domestic waste collection, along with 10 locations in Nilai for bulk waste collection. Mohd Norlisam emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging residents not to obstruct collection vehicles during cleaning operations.
Furthermore, Mohd Norlisam reminded the public to refrain from burning wheelie bins or setting off firecrackers, as such actions could pose safety risks and damage public facilities provided by the company.
