Syed Amran Syed Omar Honored with Special Senior Citizen Award for Community Service

Melaka:At 71, Syed Amran Syed Omar continues to be an active figure in community service, aiding disaster victims and underserved communities in Perlis. He now aims to extend his support to senior citizens who are neglected by their families.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Syed Amran received the Special Senior Citizen Award at the 2026 National Senior Citizens' Day celebration. He expressed that this recognition has invigorated his commitment to volunteer work and societal contribution.

Syed Amran, who holds the position of deputy commander for St John Ambulance Malaysia in Perlis, has dedicated his efforts to various community service projects. His work has included assisting COVID-19 patients and helping those affected by natural disasters such as the floods in Hulu Langat and the water surge in Yan, Kedah. Additionally, he serves as the secretary of the Village Development and Security Committee for Kampung Hutan Ketiau in Perlis.

Among his future initiatives is the "Lawat, Rawat dan Siar" (Visit, Treat and Tour) program. This initiative is designed to reach out to senior citizens across the state who receive little family attention, offering them assistance and opportunities to visit tourist spots to enhance their emotional and physical well-being.

In a related development, Petaling Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi was awarded the Senior Citizen Care Award in the local authority category. He emphasized the importance of the welfare of senior citizens in Petaling Jaya, where senior citizens make up 7.5 percent of the population. The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has developed the Senior Citizen Care Action Plan 2026 to 2030 to ensure their needs are prioritized, with programs addressing educational, health, economic, and emergency assistance needs.
