KUALA LUMPUR, The ‘Taman Angkat’ programme in seven residential communities in Cheras acts as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the police in its crime prevention efforts.
Cheras district police chief ACP Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said the programme, introduced in January, has a positive impact because the dissemination of information by local residents can help the police prevent crime and make arrests quickly.
“If we expect the police to control all corners, this is quite difficult as there are many entrances and exits. So with the cooperation of the community, it can become the eyes and ears of the police.
“This helps us a lot and these communities know their roles in helping the police. Additionally, the crime index is also under control,” he told reporters at the Cheras police chief’s monthly assembly here today, where he also presented certificates of appreciation to 20 media practitioners at the event.
Ravindar said the Taman Angkat involved Perumahan Awam Seri Sabah 3B, Perumahan Awam Seri Pulau Pinang, T
aman Midah, Taman Miharja Fasa1, Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Salak Selatan, PPR Raya Permai and PPR Pinggiran.
He said through Taman Angkat, local residents will participate in various programmes, in addition to being trained in the process of communicating information to the police by using the right channels.
Ravindar, who has been leading the Cheras district police headquarters (IPD) for five months, said the programe will continue in several other residential areas in the district.
