Taman Wawasan Area Deemed Safe for Residents Following Landslide Repairs.

Taman Wawasan: The area of the landslide that occurred on December 16 last year at Taman Wawasan here is now safe to be inhabited again by residents of the nine homes evacuated after the collapse which also swallowed four cars. The announcement came from the chairman of the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee, Huzunul Khaidil Mohammed, following an official visit with various related agencies on October 28.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision to declare Taman Wawasan free from disaster and collapse was made based on advice from the involved agencies and the technical report from the engineering division of the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ). Huzunul Khaidil Mohammed stated, “I declare the area of Jalan Wawasan 3/9, Taman Wawasan, Puchong to be free from landslides and all families involved can move into their homes with effect from today.”

Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han revealed that the total cost of the landslide repair work amounted to RM12.12 million, involving two main phases of
temporary and permanent stabilisation. The repair work commenced on December 17, 2023, and is expected to be completed by October 24, 2024. Temporary stabilisation involved installing steel piles and repairing the 83-metre monsoon drain, while permanent stabilisation included constructing gabion walls and slope restabilisation.

Ng Sze Han mentioned that four families temporarily resided in MBSJ quarters while five others stayed with relatives. Now, all nine households can return to their repaired homes. “I have been informed now that all residents are busy cleaning their homes to move back in the near future. Their homes are guaranteed to be safe and they can return anytime starting today,” Ng stated.

Dr Mohd Ariffuddin Kamari, MBSJ engineering division director, added that MBSJ has instructed developers and landowners to conduct periodic checks along the main ditch line from Tasik Wawasan to the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) to ensure its stability.

The landslide on December 16, 2023, was triggered by a
high intensity of rainfall measuring 95.5 mm, affecting an area of 0.872 hectares and impacting nine houses.
