Tanah Merah, Jeli Highlighted for Potential Gold Panning Activities

Tanah merah: The Kelantan government has identified Tanah Merah and Jeli as key districts for potential gold panning, which is a traditional method of extracting gold from river sediment using a shallow pan. Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated that officers have been tasked with reviewing the licensing, safety, and legal considerations before any mining activities receive approval.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohamed Fadzli emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring that designated areas for gold panning will not be located within prohibited zones and will not pose safety risks to miners. He acknowledged the existing involvement of some individuals in gold panning and explained that the state government intends to regulate and facilitate these activities to ensure they are conducted legally.

Dr Mohamed Fadzli also mentioned that the details of the licensing process will be announced at a later date, as officers are currently in the process of drafting the necessary guidelines and conditions for gold panning. The state government recently announced a conditional licensing scheme that would allow residents to conduct gold panning activities under certain conditions.
