Kuala lumpur: Technology must be used responsibly and ethically, particularly in shaping the character and resilience of young girls, said Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of the Prime Minister. Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the President of the Girl Guides Association Malaysia (PPPM), emphasized that technological advancements, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), should be harnessed for noble purposes to ensure that Girl Guide members develop a strong sense of identity, achieve balanced personal growth, and uphold moral values.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Wan Azizah remarked on the importance of using technology ethically. "Advancements in technology today must be used for noble purposes. We cannot afford to fall behind. While artificial intelligence (AI) holds great potential, it must be managed responsibly. At the same time, we all have a responsibility to ensure that Girl Guides develop a strong sense of identity, balanced personal growth, high empathy, and uphold noble character and Eastern values that reflect good manners," she stated during the launch of the 109th PPPM anniversary celebration.
She also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children's online activities, noting the significant risks posed by the rise of unethical technology use. "Let us all monitor our children's social media use, not to restrict their freedom, but to prevent negative issues from arising," she advised.
During the ceremony, Dr Wan Azizah announced the launch of the Kumpulan Advokasi Remaja Wanita (Young Women's Advocacy Group), describing it as an important initiative that provides a platform for young girls to voice their concerns and champion key issues. She explained, "Through this advocacy group, we aim to nurture young female leaders who are courageous, knowledgeable, and capable of shaping the nation's future with wisdom."
Additionally, she launched the Girl Guide Cookies 2025 initiative, which aims to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance among young members. The event was attended by PPPM Deputy President, Datuk Tengku Shireen Tengku Suleiman, Chief Commissioner Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng, and leaders from all 18 state branches, as well as representatives from various levels of the Girl Guides Association.
